When a Child Says No to College

If you received a college education chances are you have the same educational goals for your child, but what if your child has a different idea? Either way, the road to college is time-consuming and difficult, as it requires a lot of work from the student and parent to apply and get financial aid. So, what do you say if your child says no? The first thing to do is stop and think before you respond. Though college may seem like the ticket to success, there's more to it than meets the eye.
Also consider that getting into college is only half the battle, the rest is actually completing it, especially if it means your child takes longer than usual. So, it maybe in your favor to consider not sending him or her to college instead of forcing it and paying the bills later on. Though most careers require higher education, there are also other ways to obtain these skills. One can be an apprentice, hands on experience and specialty programs. The most important thing is to help your child understand what he or she loves and is passionate about in life and then what steps can be taken to move in that direction.
